Today, we give thanks for Green Onions.

ArtistBooker T. Jones
TitleGreen Onions
AlbumLive from Mountain Stage, 2011
Booker T. Jones appeared on Mountain Stage with his own band just a few months ago. You can stream at NPR or download via the archives. But do yourself a favor and check out this ‘77 concert with the MG’s featuring bassist Duck Dunn, who passed away this weekend. One of the greatest players in the history of rock, soul, and R&B. Every track he played on is better because of it.

Booker T. & the MG’s - Bottom Line, New York, NY, June 19, 1977
More in memory of Donald “Duck” Dunn, MG’s bassist extraordinaire. This is a very fun show via Wolfgang’s Vault, featuring the band stretching out a bit and indulging in some somewhat unexpected — but successful! — disco moves. Maybe it was expected — it was 1977 after all. Sticky stuff!
